G2S - 1969-1970 Mercury Cougars (non XR7)


The G2S is the tach that Mercury should have made! It replaces the clock or clock delete on 1969 and 1970 standard Cougars. It is made from the clock or clock delete itself and retains the double conical shape and brushed center. The scale and font are designed to match the standard speedometer. It has a competition orange pointer and is only available in the 8000 RPM range.


Notes:

  • This tachometer is a drop in replacement for a clock or clock delete plug. If your standard Cougar has a clock and you are not using a clock core you will need to get a lens from a non-clock panel.


  • If your clock is the enclosed type that has the lens built into it and you are using a blank core you will need the C9WF-10894 filler plate that the lens attaches to . Let me know and I will send you one with your tach.

Garbage, wa8st of time and money

I purchased one of your tachometers for my 1969 Mercury Cougar. After installing the unit and reassembling the dashboard, I started the car and allowed it to run for a while. During the first few drives, the tachometer appeared to function correctly.
However, after only a few trips, the tachometer began behaving erratically. Unfortunately, this means I now have to reopen the dashboard—several hours of work—just to access and adjust the small calibration screw located at the back of the unit.
To compare, I installed an aftermarket tachometer and it has worked flawlessly without any adjustment. The calibration screw on your tachometer is extremely sensitive, and I suspect it may require frequent readjustment due to normal vehicle vibrations.
At this point, the tachometer has essentially become like the original clock in my dash—an expensive component that no longer works as intended. It is disappointing to invest in a product that fails so quickly after installation.
I would strongly suggest improving the design so the tachometers are properly calibrated and stable before being sold. The aftermarket unit proves that it is entirely possible to produce a reliable tachometer that functions correctly without constant adjustment.

I am sorry to hear that you are still having problems with the G2S tachometer, but am very happy that you did not take a hammer to it as you said you were in our last correspondence over a year ago. I am still willing to take the tachometer back and, assuming it's in it's original condition, return your money (and a clock delete if needed).
